Brown Eagle Group, Inc. is a 100% woman-owned, Louisiana business with nearly 50 years of experience as a one-stop solution for industrial facilities’ post-manufacturing needs.  Brown Eagle provides contract labor to manage and operate clients’ packaging, bulk material handling, third-party logistics, warehousing and shipping functions. Once our client makes its product, Brown Eagle can handle the rest or provide discrete custom solutions based on your needs.

Brown Eagle was founded in 1968 by R.T. Brown, Jr. who was responsible for staffing more than 15 chemical plants through the 1950’s and 1960’s. Mr. Brown recognized that the packaging, shipping, logistics and warehousing functions were complementary and fundamentally different from his employer’s core competency of chemical manufacturing. Brown Eagle was created to provide a comprehensive post manufacturing solution so our clients can focus on their core competency – chemical manufacturing.

Lela Mae Wilkes joined Brown Eagle as the controller in 1977 and quickly became an integral part of the company’s management team. Ms. Wilkes was promoted to Vice President in 1983 and to President in 1987. Throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s Ms. Wilkes was responsible for growing the Brown Eagle to 500+ employees with concurrent projects in Louisiana, Texas, Alabama and Kentucky.

The mid-1990’s were the beginning of challenging times for Ms. Wilkes and Brown Eagle. In addition to the dour economic environment for the chemical industry as a whole, Brown Eagle’s founder was diagnosed with cancer and stepped away from the business. In 1996, Mr. Brown decided to strip the company of its marketing, internal performance and operation support budgets.

Through the subsequent years, Ms. Wilkes has concentrated her talent (and force of will) on excellence in operations, safety and customer service to keep Brown Eagle independent in an industry that has seen relentless consolidation over the past 20 years and maintain Brown Eagle’s reputation for excellence in service.

In 2014, Ms. Wilkes acquired Brown Eagle from the founder’s heirs. Today Brown Eagle is the only 100% woman owned chemical packaging/material handling service provider working inside chemical plants in the Gulf South.
